Delete your Split account

You can delete your account at any time. Two paths depending on whether you can still sign in.

If you can sign in to Split

This is the fastest path — deletion is immediate and you stay in control of timing.

  1. Open Split (web or mobile) and sign in to the account you want to delete.
  2. Go to Settings from the left sidebar (or the menu drawer on mobile).
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the Settings page to the Delete account section.
  4. Type DELETE in the confirmation box and tap Delete my account.

That’s it — your account, profile, expenses, settlements, payment preferences, and group memberships are removed from our active database within seconds. You will be signed out and the email or phone number on the account becomes free to use for a new signup.

If you cannot sign in

Email support@foundrystudiolabs.com from the email address on the account and include the phrase “Delete my Split account.” We will:

  1. Verify the request came from the address on the account.
  2. Delete the account within 30 days of the verified request.
  3. Reply to confirm once the deletion is complete.

What gets deleted

Immediately removed from our active systems:

  • Your profile (name, email, phone, avatar)
  • Expenses, splits, and settlements you created or are part of (in groups where you are the only member, the entire group is deleted)
  • Receipt photos you uploaded
  • Payment preferences (Venmo / PayPal / Cash App handles)
  • Group memberships and friend connections
  • Quick Splits you organized and any pending invitations

What is retained, and for how long

  • Encrypted backups — up to 90 days. These are write-only point-in-time snapshots used for disaster recovery, not actively queried. After 90 days they roll off automatically.
  • Billing records required by law (subscription charges, refunds, tax records) — retained per US tax and accounting requirements, typically 7 years. Personally identifiable information is removed where the law allows; transaction amounts and dates are kept.
  • Audit logs of the deletion itself — retained briefly so we can prove the deletion happened if you follow up.

We do not retain anything else.

What about expenses other people share with me?

Group expenses are joint records — the group owns them, not you alone. When you delete your account from a group with other active members, your name is replaced with “former member” on the historical entries so the group’s settle-up math stays consistent for the people who remain. Your contact details (email, phone) are removed in this case.

Subscriptions

If you have an active paid subscription, deletion does not automatically refund it — cancel from the Stripe customer portal, App Store, or Google Play subscription settings first (depending on where you signed up). Your subscription will run to the end of its paid period regardless of account deletion.
