These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of Split, a web and mobile application operated by Foundry Studio Labs LLC (“Split,” “we,” “us”) at split.foundrystudiolabs.com and on iOS and Android. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

The service

Split lets you scan receipts, split expenses with friends or group members, settle balances, and generate shareable Quick Split links for one-off bills. Split does not hold, transfer, or process payments between users. Any actual transfer of funds happens through third-party apps you choose (Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, etc.) outside of Split.

Eligibility and accounts

  • You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. Users under 18 should have a parent or guardian review these Terms.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs on your account.
  • You agree to provide accurate information when creating an account and to keep it up to date.

SMS messaging program disclosures

Program name: Split account verification (one-time password / 2FA).

What you receive: When you choose to sign in by phone, you receive a single SMS containing a one-time 6-digit verification code. You initiate this message by entering your own phone number and tapping “Send Code” on our login or signup page at split.foundrystudiolabs.com/login or split.foundrystudiolabs.com/signup. Split does not send marketing SMS, promotional SMS, or SMS to phone numbers entered by anyone other than the account owner.

Message frequency: One SMS per login attempt. There is no recurring schedule; you only receive a message when you actively request one.

Message and data rates: Message and data rates may apply to all SMS we send. Rates are determined by your mobile carrier, not by Split.

Opt-out: You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any Split SMS. Replying STOP immediately and permanently removes your number from our system. Replying HELP returns contact information for support.

Privacy: Your mobile phone number is governed by our Privacy Policy. We do not share, sell, or rent your mobile phone number to third parties for advertising or marketing.

Carrier disclaimer: Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Subscriptions and billing

  • Split offers free and paid tiers. Paid tiers (“Starter,” “Pro”) are billed monthly through Stripe (web) or through Apple In-App Purchase / Google Play Billing (mobile).
  • Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from Settings → Plan (web) or from your App Store / Play Store subscription management screen (mobile).
  • Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain paid-tier access until then.
  • We do not provide refunds for partial billing periods. Refund requests for unused time may be made to support@foundrystudiolabs.com and will be evaluated case by case.
  • Prices may change. We will give you at least 30 days’ notice before any price change takes effect on your subscription.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use Split to harass, defraud, or threaten other people.
  • Submit phone numbers, contact details, or financial information about people without their permission.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users’ data, our systems, or the systems of our sub-processors.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the app beyond what is permitted by applicable law.
  • Use Split for any unlawful purpose, including transmission of content that violates the rights of others.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with or without notice, and to remove content that violates these terms.

Content you create

You retain ownership of receipts, expenses, notes, and other content you submit to Split. You grant Split a limited, non-exclusive license to store, process, and display that content solely for the purpose of providing the service to you and the people you share splits with. We do not use your content for advertising or training third-party AI models.

Receipt-scanning AI

When you upload a receipt photo, Split sends the image to Anthropic (Claude) for one-shot line-item extraction. Anthropic processes the image solely to return structured data and does not retain or train on the image per their data-processing terms. The extracted data is stored in your Split account; the source image is stored in our private Supabase bucket until you delete the expense.

Disclaimers

Split is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components.

Currency conversion rates shown in Split are sourced from frankfurter.app and may not reflect real-time market rates. Split does not guarantee the accuracy of conversions and is not responsible for differences between Split’s displayed rate and rates charged by your payment provider.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Foundry Studio Labs LLC and its officers, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from (a) your use of or inability to use the service; (b) any unauthorized access to or use of our servers and/or any personal information stored therein; (c) any errors or omissions in any content; or (d) any third-party conduct, including payment app behavior outside of Split.

Our aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid to us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or one hundred US dollars ($100), whichever is greater.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Foundry Studio Labs LLC from any claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, made by any third party due to or arising out of your use of the service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of another.

Termination

You can delete your account at any time from split.foundrystudiolabs.com/delete-account or from Settings → Account inside the app. We may suspend or terminate your account for violations of these Terms, suspected fraud, or operational reasons (e.g., decommissioning of the service). Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (including disclaimers, limitations of liability, and indemnification) will survive.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notice at least 30 days before they take effect on your subscription.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of these Terms or your use of the service will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Miami-Dade County, Florida, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.
